According to Indiana’s state revenue report, sportsbooks in Indiana has seen its handle and revenue figures climb. In particular, Hoosier bettors registered $348.2 million in bets which beats the previous record of $313.1million recorded in December.

This is the fifth consecutive month that Indiana sports betting broke its handle record with a massive year-on-year increase as $171 million was recorded in January 2020.

Additionally, through this generated sportsbook revenue, $2.8 million was collected in terms of states tax.

Furthermore, the strength of sportsbooks in Indiana remains one of the states most profitable streams of income, with $296 million, or 85% of Indiana’s wagers, using online platforms.

Retail sportsbook still leave their mark

Sportsbooks are moving in the right direction despite online dominance and the current pandemic. With retail sportsbooks raking in $51.7 million in wagers compared to $47.4 million.

The retail leaders were:

  1. Hollywood Lawrenceburg – $13.4million
  2. Amerister Casino – $9.6million
  3. Horseshoe Hammond – $7.4million

In total, Amerister Casino was responsible for $134.4million of January’s betting handle since it also has DraftKings and theScore under their name. From the total handle, Amerister Casino recorded revenue of $10.7million and contributed $1million to state tax total.

Indiana’s top sport

The most popular sports to bet on by residents in Indiana is basketball, resulting in 38% of all bets. The NBA and NCAA seasons are in their peak and is home to the Indiana Pacers.

Moreover, the extended run of the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL postseason also helped the states betting handle in January.
