Lithuanian regulator amps up bid to block illegal operators

The Lithuanian Gaming Control Authority will come down hard on unlicenced operators, blocking access to their websites

The Lithuanian Gaming Control Authority will shut down any unlicenced operators or providers that do not have a valid licence. Those who do not have a licence will be classed as illegal operators and will be prohibited from operating in the country as their website will be shut down.

The Lithuanian regulator has the authority to take action against any unlicenced operators, including blocking access to their websites. Those operators who are then blocked by the Lithuanian regulator will then be added to a blacklist of unlicenced and illegal operators. This blacklist is updated regularly on their website.

However, if an operator is blacklisted, the Control Authority will still be able to remove those operators from the list if they acquire the relevant licence to offer online gambling.

“The Control Authority strongly recommends all online gambling operators review all their activities related to remote gambling in Lithuania and take actions to ensure that such services are not available for Lithuanian customers.

After having identified the fact of illegal remote gambling activity in the Republic of Lithuania, the Control Authority is authorised to take measures established in the Gaming Law.”

Lithuania’s Gambling regulator had previously imposed a fine of €15,000 to UAB Tete-a-Tete Casino. Following an investigation, the operator was found to have unreasonably limited the amount of bets placed and winnings received by the player.
