Ontario?operators took CAD $6.04 billion (USD $4.4 billion) in bets in 2Q22, according to iGaming Ontario, which was presenting its second quarterly report since the market opened in April.

According to the report, the total wagers stood at CAD $6.04 billion ($4.4 billion), not including promotional bets and bonuses. This represents approximately CAD $2 billion more than the CAD $4.07 billion bet in the first quarter. Ontario started its commercial iGaming market on April 4.

Total gaming revenue came in at CAD $267 million ($192 million), 48% higher than CAD $162 million in the first quarter, and includes total cash wagers and all fees across all operators from July 1 to September 30, 2022. Player winnings derived from cash bets and operating costs, or other liabilities are not included in this amount.

As of September 30, 2022, there were 24 operators and 42 gaming websites in total.

Average player to spend approximately CAD $142 per month

iGaming Ontario has a total of 628,000 active player accounts, meaning accounts with cash and/or promotional wagering activity. However, these accounts do not represent unique players, as users are enabled to have accounts with multiple operators. It is estimated that those players spend an average CAD $142 per month.

The report includes all iGaming operators licensed with iGO from July 1 through September 30, 2022. As such, it does not include OLG’s iGaming offering.

Ontario established itself as a leader in Canada by fully embracing iGaming, transforming it into a critical new market.

Established in July 2021 as a subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), iGaming Ontario brings online gambling experiences to the people of Ontario in a safer environment.

According to the official website, the agency will sign commercial deals only with operators who meet rigorous game standards and operator integrity, fairness, protection, and social responsibility, allowing all players to play confidently.
