U.S. Oct. revenue second-highest on record, on track for bumper year

U.S. commercial gambling revenue saw its second-highest month ever in October, putting the industry on track to finish the year at a record level.

According to figures from the American Gambling Association (AGA), October revenue was $5.29 billion, up 10.5 percent year-on-year. That’s second only to the $5.35 billion recorded in March this year.?

The AGA says the October figure puts the U.S. on track for a record year in 2022, with commercial gaming revenue up 14.7 percent to $49.85 billion in the ten months through October.?

The fastest-growing segment was sports betting, which recorded a 77.9 percent increase in gross gambling revenue to $5.76 billion in the first ten months. For October, the segment generated $804.7 million.?

GGR in iGaming was up 38 percent to $4.08 billion in the ten months and was $453.1 million in October alone, which was an all-time monthly record.??

Slot games, which is the biggest segment of the U.S. market, saw the slowest growth, rising 5.8 percent to $28.6 billion in the ten months and gaining 2.4 percent on the month, the AGA said.?

It said that sports betting and iGaming combined made up nearly a quarter of total revenue in October, helped by a busy sporting calendar.?

Americans in 27 legal jurisdictions wagered a total of $9.07 billion on sports. iGaming and sports betting contributed most to the month’s commercial gaming revenue since the casinos were closed down at the peak of the Covid pandemic in 2020.?

On a state-by-state level, 26 out of 33 jurisdictions saw higher revenue in the month. The figures exclude Arizona, which hasn’t yet reported.

Monthly gaming win was flat, or lower in Delaware, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio and Oklahoma.?
