Wiltshire Council invites public opinion on gambling policy

Wiltshire Council is reaching out to its residents for their input on a newly proposed gambling policy. The Council’s objective is to adopt a more transparent and accountable gambling environment with an ongoing commitment to ensure responsible management of licensed premises within the county.

The proposed gambling policy, currently in draft form, outlines the council’s approach to managing premises with gambling licenses and providing guidance to applicants. This comprehensive plan is part of the council’s broader strategy to apply its functions under the Gambling Act 2005 effectively. The Act guides the council’s decision-making process on applications for gambling premises, small lotteries, and club machines.

The new policy will encompass a wide range of gambling-related establishments, including adult gaming centres, family entertainment centres, casinos, bingo premises, betting premises, tracks, and travelling fairs. This broad coverage ensures that all aspects of the gambling industry within the county are regulated in a fair and consistent manner.

Wiltshire Council’s approach that represents community’s views

Cllr Dominic Muns, the cabinet member for the environment, explained the importance of licensed premises in local communities. He expressed the council’s eagerness to hear from residents or anyone interested in licensing and the promotion of licensing objectives. Their feedback will be instrumental in shaping the council’s next policy.

Once the consultation period ends, the feedback will be compiled and presented to the council’s Licensing Committee in September. This process ensures that the voices of Wiltshire’s residents are heard and considered in the council’s decision-making process.

The current statement of licensing policy, along with the draft policy, is available for review on the council’s website. This accessibility ensures transparency and allows residents to make informed contributions to the consultation process.

Wiltshire Council is required by law to renew its statement of gambling principles every three years. With the current deadline set for October, the council is keen to incorporate public opinion into its policy-making process. The consultation period will last for four weeks, concluding on Monday, 5 August. During this time, residents are encouraged to visit the council’s website to share their views on the draft policy.
